SACRAMENTS

The Latin word sacramentum means "a sign of the sacred." The seven sacraments are efficacious signs instituted and given to the Church by Jesus Christ. They are ceremonies that point to what is sacred, significant and important for Christians. They are instruments of God's grace and special occasions for experiencing God's saving presence.

Baptism

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Baptism frees people from sin, gives them rebirth as God’s children, incorporates them into Christ’s Church and grants them a share in his mission.

(To arrange a baptism please see either one of the Priests or Amy Viñas after mass.)

Confirmation

Confirmation is a Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation for Catholics. It is most often associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

(This is usually celebrated on our Feast Day ‘Trinity Chapel’. Classes are offered for children aged 10 years of age and older. Any adult requiring this Sacrament should contact one of the Priests to arrange for instruction.)

Eucharist (Holy Communion)

The Eucharist is the source and the summit of the Christian life. It is an action of thanksgiving to God, a re-enactment of the last supper and a memorial of the Lord’s passion and resurrection. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

Reconciliation (Confession)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance, or Penance and Reconciliation) has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional forgiveness; as a result we are called to forgive others.
