PASTORAL MINISTRIES

The Legion of Mary
(Our Lady Of The Most Holy Trinity Praesidium)

How do I start?

The first step is to be a guest at a meeting of the Legion of Mary. Guests are always welcome and can go on one of the work assignments with an experienced member if they choose.

How does it work?

Members meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. They do two hours of definite work each week in pairs.

What does it do?

Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced programme of prayer and service. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the Parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the Priest. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the Priest.

What is it?

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. It has been approved by the last six popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. There are presently over 2,000 active members and 5,000 auxiliary members in the Hong Kong SAR.

Who can belong?

The Legion of Mary is open to all Catholics who:
  • Faithfully practise their religion.
  • Are animated by the desire to participate in the Church’s apostolate through membership in the Legion.
  • Are prepared to fulfill each and every duty.

Altar Servers

To foster a sense of teamwork and unity; and a spirit of love for the Lord and fellow man. By assisting the priest during mass through altar service, they will understand the life of faith and develop a spirit of duty and a sense of responsibility.

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:13-14)

The great Father of the Church, St. Augustine said that singing is praying twice.

Please contact the relevant choir co-ordinator to become a member of this important ministry and lead parishioners at mass in song of praise giving glory to Father, Son and Spirit.

The Pastoral Care Ministry

The Pastoral Care Ministry was set up last year (2018) in response to being part of a caring community here in Discovery Bay. It is important, that whenever someone who belongs to the community when they are sick, housebound, in hospital, have a serious illness, in pregnancy, injury or similar circumstances, that our Eucharistic Ministers bring the comfort and healing of Christ in the form of the Blessed Sacrament to those who cannot come to Mass, to share their faith, compassion, and the support of the community to those in our midst who are sick.

We bring the church to people who cannot physically come to church. In this way, the sick and homebound are united to the Body of Christ. The ministers continue the healing and compassionate ministry of Jesus, as members of his body. It is always in Jesus name that they visit. The call of the ministers to the sick is to be present to the patients as they attempt to find God in their life situation, by listening to them.
To get in touch with a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick and Housebound please contact Fr. Mietek
